US President Donald Trump has reignited his feud with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the eve of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Turkiye.
The 47th POTUS hilariously called for a “restraining order” against Meloni. After both leaders attended the summit, Trump took to his own Truth Social platform and shared a photo of the Italian prime minister looking at him.
He captioned it: “A RESTRAINING ORDER NEEDED.” The Italian Prime Minister has not yet reacted to the publication.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto declined to offer any reaction to Trump’s post. In an interview with Italy’s Sky TV, Crosetto said: “I didn’t have any reaction. The fundamental thing is to maintain relations with a key ally like the United States.”
He added that people come and go but relations between countries remain.
This comes after the two leaders exchanged heated words following the G7 summit in France, when the US president told the media that Meloni “begged” him to take a photo with her, a claim that was strongly denied by the Italian prime minister.
Meloni described Trump’s version of events as a “made-up story.”
The fallout between the two appeared to have flared after President Trump criticized Pope Leo, who criticized Trump’s war against Iran and has been an outspoken critic of Trump’s anti-immigration crackdown.
