Are you looking for a different day?
A new NYT Strands puzzle appears at midnight every day for your time zone, which means some people are always playing “today’s game” while others play “yesterday’s.” If instead you are looking for the Tuesday puzzle then click here: NYT Strands Tips and Answers for Tuesday, July 7 (Game #856).
Strands is the latest NYT word game after Wordle, Spelling Bee, and Connections, and it’s a lot of fun. It can be difficult, though, so read on for my Strands suggestions.
Want more word-based fun? Then check out my NYT Connections Today and Quordle Today pages for tips and answers for those games, and Marc’s Wordle Today page for the original viral word game.
SPOILER WARNING: Today’s NYT Strands info is below, so don’t read on if you don’t want to know the answers.

NYT Strands Today (Game #857): The Answers
The answers to today’s Strands game #857 are…
- ROGUE
- THUG
- rapsallon
- WHIPPER-SNAPPER
- SPANGRAM: LITTLE DEVIL
- My rating: Hard
- My score: 1 track
There were a few different ways to connect LITTLE and DEVIL and I think I tried them all before finally getting a rare spangram first, at least for me.
The rest of the board was much more complicated. After I got SCAMP I used a hint, but even with it I had a hard time seeing HELLION, it’s not a word I’ve heard before.
Then the non-game word “scallion” helped me watch RAPSCALLION before my misery was ended by the brilliantly old-fashioned WHIPPERSNAPPER, a great word, but possibly not one to use when reporting “trouble” to the police.
Answers from yesterday’s NYT Strands (Tuesday, July 7, Game #856)
- CAR
- BUGGY
- WAGON
- CAR
- DILIGENCE
- SLED
- SPANGRAM: IGETAROUND
