Caitlin Clark is “great for women’s sports,” says LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam

While some in the WNBA may not recognize it, LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam certainly does: Caitlin Clark is great for women’s sports.

In a recent interview with Pak Gazette Digital, Sorenstam talked about how Clark has helped bring a new demographic into golf.

“She’s obviously very popular. She brings a new demographic to the game, and when she’s there playing the pro-am, I mean, we have a lot of people who come and want her autograph. Following her every shot, and she’s just great for women’s sports. and we love that she’s a part of this,” Sorenstam told Pak Gazette Digital.

Sorenstam will play in the American Century Championship on Friday and is one of the contenders to win the tournament. Clark can’t play in the celebrity golf tournament because of the WNBA schedule, but he thinks Clark would do well.

Clark has played in the ANNIKA Pro-Am and Sorenstam has been impressed with her play.

“I think she would do pretty well (at the American Century Championship). I mean, she’s quite an athlete, as you know. That’s stating the obvious. But she loves golf. She’s been playing golf for many years, and I know every time she gets the chance, she goes to the course,” Sorenstam told Pak Gazette Digital.

Sorenstam is one of the favorites to win the tournament. Sorenstam, who won 72 LPGA Tour tournaments, including 10 majors, during her illustrious career, will raise awareness for the Annika Foundation.

“We try to empower and advance young women through the game of golf, but also in life, with different life skills, and it’s been really rewarding and fulfilling to see how far women’s golf has come and how many of these young women are pursuing their dreams. It’s been a lot of fun and just watching the difference we’re making in these young women’s lives,” Sorenstam said.

With the Stableford scoring format, Sorenstam talked about the need to be more aggressive and chase more birdies and eagles. The tournament will air on NBC and Peacock.
