The body of US citizen Connor Murphy, 32, was discovered after an emergency call was received around 3 pm local time on July 7, according to local media outlet ThaiRath.
Police, medical staff at Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital and volunteers responded to reports of a foreign national entering a lake located within an upscale residential village.
Rescue divers recovered Murphy’s body about 20 meters from shore.
However, no official autopsy report appears as the investigation is still ongoing.
The property where Murphy was staying is a residential house valued at about 22 million and was purchased on lease for a period of three months at 35,000 baht per month.
According to local media reports, the resort employee captured video after Murphy began showing signs of distress for unknown reasons.
Town security personnel said he returned in a rented vehicle, tried to approach another resident’s car, screamed and rolled down the road before police arrived.
When officers tried to arrest him, Murphy ran towards the town and jumped into the lake, which is more than 10 meters deep.
Bystanders told ThaiBath that he swam until he was exhausted and drowned in the lake water.
