For four straight years, Stephen Curry and LeBron James tried to win an NBA championship against each other, but they could soon try to win one together.
The two faces of this generation’s NBA faced off in the NBA Finals every year from 2015 to 2018, with Curry winning three and James winning one.
What became a de facto annual series between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors became one of the greatest on-court rivalries in basketball history.

But after they teamed up to win an Olympic gold medal in Paris, what was once an irrational thought became a reality, and suddenly Curry’s Golden State Warriors found themselves among the favorites to land James after he announced he was leaving the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency.
“If LeBron says he wants to play for you, you move mountains to get it,” Curry told reporters at his American Century Championship media availability on Thursday.
Curry all but confirmed that the Warriors are in the “mix” of suitors for the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, a scenario Curry can hardly believe.
“I mean, until probably two or three years ago, it was like a pipe dream question or even a thought, but that’s part of the appeal,” Curry said when asked by Pak Gazette Digital about the possibility of playing alongside James after having been his public enemy No. 1.

“For him in his 24th season, and for me in my 18th, the battles we had, would be a unique story in the history of the NBA, in the history of the sport. But it’s a little premature now to talk about it beyond that.”
After James and the Cavs completed the first 3-1 comeback in NBA Finals history in 2016, the Warriors signed Kevin Durant and won the next two titles as the talent around James diminished.
James then went to the Lakers, where he won his fourth title in 2020, but his stay there ends after nine seasons.
The Warriors appear to be on the outside looking in on LeBron’s sweepstakes after being an early favorite, but reports have said that James will make his decision based simply on his own happiness, money aside.
