A week ago, CDF Munir was in Iran to attend the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The visit comes a month after Turkish Land Forces Commander General Metin Tokel visited CDF Munir at Rawalpindi Headquarters. General Tokel had expressed his commitment to further enhance defense cooperation and institutional ties between the armed forces of the two sister nations.
General Tokel also called on Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Chief of Air Staff Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu.
CDF Munir visited Tehran in May as part of Pakistan’s mediation efforts between the United States and Iran. During the visit, he met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
CDF Munir has played a central role in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran, and Pakistan helped broker a temporary ceasefire and subsequent negotiations between the two sides.
