- Marvel has released a giant new mural for Avengers: Judgment Day
- It gives us a new look at its massive cast and chief villain, Doctor Doom.
- An MCU character surprisingly draws attention by his absence
Marvel has unveiled a huge new mural for Avengers: Judgment Day which features all but one of its sizable cast.
First shown at the Chinese fan convention Bilibili World in Shanghai last Saturday (July 11), the artwork gives us another look at the long-awaited film’s heroic ensemble.
AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY – The last full-length film I had the honor of directing as Director of Visual Development at Marvel Studios. This illustration commemorates that journey and reveals the characters and their appearance for the first time. #AvengersDoomsday pic.twitter.com/87l95XZZ7dJuly 11, 2026
The image, which was later shared online by former Marvel Studios head of visual development Andy Park, also offers a new look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
As expected, we don’t get to see Doom’s likely scarred face – a reveal Surely Marvel is holding off until the film’s full release. However, his iconic mask, along with those piercing ice-blue eyes, indicates that the main villain of the Multiverse Saga will be an emotionally cold, calculating and formidable enemy that our heroes must overcome.
Missing in action
With San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2026 and, by proxy, this year’s edition of Marvel’s long-awaited Hall H panel, it’s no surprise to see the comics giant begin to ramp up its promotional campaign for next year. Avengers movie.
That is However, what is surprising about the first official artwork for the Marvel Phase 6 movie is the absence of a specific Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) character. And I’m not talking about heroes who weren’t announced as part of DoomsdayThe initial cast of 27 members, such as Spider-Man, Wolverine, Deadpool or Captain Marvel.
So who is it? None other than Tenoch Huerta’s Namor, aka the ocean-dwelling antihero and the MCU’s first mutant, who was first introduced to MCU fans in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Namor’s absence is certainly strange, especially since the rest of DoomsdayThe reveal of the original cast is part of this mural. The inclusion of Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, who was not part of the film’s initial lineup but was eventually confirmed to be part of the process when Avengers: Judgment DayThe first teaser for Namor was released last December, which also makes Namor’s non-appearance even stranger.
Is it a simple, yet important, oversight on Marvel’s part not to include him in this piece of art? Or does it indicate that Namor will only have a minor role/cameo to play? Avengers 5? With Namor appearing in Avengers: Judgment DayIt’s the fourth preview, I seriously doubt it will be the last. That being said, I don’t think Marvel intentionally removed him from this illustration. Hopefully someone at Marvel Studios will shed light on this if they are asked about it at SDCC.
