- The Rivelia Start is De’Longhi’s smallest automatic coffee machine
- It has a menu of 10 coffee drinks, including cold brew.
- It’s on sale now in the UK for £599.99 (around $800 / AU$1,160)
De’Longhi makes some of the best espresso machines I’ve tested here on TechRadar, and as a small kitchen owner, their latest model has particularly piqued my interest. The De’Longhi Rivelia Start is the company’s smallest fully automatic coffee machine.
The Rivelia Start is the successor to the De’Longhi Rivelia 2024, which our tester Josephine Watson gave five stars thanks to its consistently well-extracted espresso, the clever Bean Adapt technology that optimizes brew settings to suit your preferred beans, and the LatteCrema Hot system, which creates a thick, creamy foam for dairy drinks.
Rivelia Start offers all of that in an even smaller package and adds the ability to brew authentic-tasting cold brew. De’Longhi promises that its cold brew will be “ready in less than five minutes,” which tells me it’s not simply a case of pouring a shot of hot coffee over ice, like other machines I’ve tried recently. Instead, coffee is extracted with room temperature water, resulting in fewer bitter compounds dissolving for a smoother flavor.
The Rivelia Start’s standard menu contains 10 drinks, but if you like the idea of an iced latte or cappuccino to help keep you cool in the summer months, you can upgrade your Rivelia Start with the optional LatteCrema Cool set, which allows you to froth cold milk for six more drinks.
Personally, the feature I’m most excited about is the pair of interchangeable grain bins. Sometimes my job involves drinking a lot of lattes and I always prefer to switch to decaf in the afternoon so I can sleep after a day testing espresso and drip coffee machines. With Rivelia Start, there is no need to purge one type of coffee from the hopper before refilling with another; Just unscrew the whole thing and swap it out for one filled with a different type of bean.
It’s also easy to operate, with a clearly labeled button interface rather than a touch screen, making it more accessible to new users.
Its small size isn’t the only thing that sets it apart from other coffee makers: it also comes in an earthy color palette that fits with the current trend for natural tones and textures, making a refreshing change from the black, white and chrome that once dominated kitchen appliances.
It’s available to buy now directly from De’Longhi in the UK for £599.99 (around $800 / AU$1,160) in two colours: maple brown and jade green. More shades will be available in third-party stores from September and we are currently awaiting details of their international launch.
