Every once in a while, I get an email about products and a product launch that really makes me go “Damn!” aloud. And seeing the first images of the new version of their We Are Rewind cassette player decked out in Pink Floyd colors was one of those occasions.

The cassette is especially interesting, because it is the first time that the 50th anniversary remastering of the album is available on tape, and it may well be the only time.

Nick Mason of Pink Floyd joked: “I still have my Nakamichi on the shelf and I hope to try it with the new one The dark side of the moon cassette. Am I right in assuming that the next big problem will be The dark side of the moon In a large package consisting of the album divided into 78 RPM records?”

I already have a WE-001 on the shelf at home, next to my amplifier, and I still find myself extremely I’m tempted to pick up this new version anyway.

The WE-001 player is a modernized tape player, with an attractive aluminum design and Bluetooth 5.1 compatibility, as well as an audio jack for wired headphones. A statement from We Are Rewind says there’s a “unique headphone amp designed with cassette playback in mind,” and I have to say it sounds good, although if you choose old tapes the quality may vary depending more on the tape than what’s inside the player.
