With a humble gesture, the British monarch has won hearts, taking off his shoes to send a powerful message of unity to the world.
King Charles, 77, went shoeless as he showed off knitted socks to show respect for the faith to strengthen harmony during his visit to Cambridge Central Mosque on Monday.
Prince William and Harry’s father took off his leather shoes before entering Europe’s first eco-mosque.
The King’s pictures went viral and attracted huge praise and hearts from social media users for his gracious act.
He put on his socks as he walked through a prayer room. Apparently, the king was prepared for the move, as he wore elegant gray knitted socks on his feet.
During his visit, the King joked with some schoolchildren that he hoped he hadn’t “ruined the holiday too much by dragging you here.”
His kind gesture brought smiles to the faces of the spectators.
Back in the first room, after putting on his shoes, Charles unveiled a plaque marking the 75th anniversary of Cambridge being granted city status by King George VI. Charles was then given a book about the mosque.
On a separate visit later that day, he officially opened the city’s new Whittle Laboratory, a hub for disruptive innovation in net-zero aviation and energy. On this occasion he was not accompanied by Queen Camilla, who was visiting the Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney charity, which offers a home.
