Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, inaugurated the first fully electric bus service in the province in Lahore, the provincial capital. The new fleet consists of buses with a capacity of 30 seats and the ability to transport 80 passengers.

Electric buses are equipped with modern comforts, which include GPS tracking, Wi-Fi, USB ports and ramps for people with disabilities.

In an attempt to improve safety, floors have been installed against the slide and cameras are placed to avoid harassment.

To guarantee efficiency, nine specialized load stations have been established, and each bus can cover a distance of 250 kilometers with a complete load.

A digital wallet and a card system will also be introduced to facilitate travel without cash. The electric bus service will initially operate on a 21 km route from the railway station to Green Town.

In mid -February, the service will begin, with buses that run every 9 minutes, and 42 modern bus shelters to settle. The service is expected to serve 17,000 passengers daily.

The main minister also reviewed the plans to install solar fans, water coolers and surveillance cameras in bus stations and emphasized special training for 70 bus drivers.

In addition, discussions were held on the introduction of electric taxis in Punjab.
