- Apple could soon launch a new icloud function called Confeti
- Apparently it will help you send and manage invitations more easily
- Unfortunately, ICLOUD’s free storage option is still limited to 5GB
The Apple ICloud system is used to administer all kinds of cloud -based activities, from file management in ICLOUD DRIVE to verify your email from any device. Now, it is on the verge of obtaining a new feature called confetti that could change the way you find friends and loved ones.
The rumor comes from Bloomberg’s journalist Mark Gurman, who spilled beans in his possession in the newsletter during the weekend. There, Gurman describes Confetti as “a new event service and invitation based on ICloud.”
The idea is that it gives “a new way of inviting people to parties, functions and meetings,” says Gurman. At this time, that is done mainly in some different ways, either creating an event in the Apple calendar application and sharing it with guests, or simply sending text messages to people in their chosen messaging application.
Confetti could be launched as soon as this week, Gurman believes. However, it is not certain that the application is called Confeti, since Gurman says that this is what Apple is called internally, that means that Apple chooses a different name when the application is launched. Anyway, we could get our first glance in the next few days.
Confetti versus more storage space
There is much to like Icloud, and allows a range of strong Apple characteristics. I use it to make a backup of my iPhone, track my devices with Find My and download my photos in the cloud to release storage space. And although the confetti sounds like an update welcome to the application of the calendar, it seems that Apple has not yet approached the elephant in the room.
That problem is the ICLOUD base storage level. Apple offers a free ICloud level, but it only comes with a miserable 5 GB storage space. Compare that with some of the best free cloud storage options such as Google Drive and Samsung Cloud, which grant 15 GB for free.
Each year, Apple improves photography capabilities of their iPhones and allows them to take increasingly detailed (and always large) images. While that is a laudable movement, it means that its iPhone will fill faster than ever, and with only 5 GB of free storage in ICloud, it makes paying the additional space more necessary than ever. It is a hidden cost to have an iPhone that many users have to pay, including me.
Do not be misunderstood, the confetti seems like a useful addition to icloud arsenal, and I’m glad to see what is on the way. But if the choice were between Confeti and a more generous free storage subsidy, I know what I would choose.
