Operai has changed the way in which its new Chatgpt O3-mini model shows its chain of thought (COT) to “facilitate that people understand how the model thinks”, however, has faced an almost immediate reaction from users and accusations of which is copying the way in which Depseek’s R1 model shows its reasoning.
In statements to Techradar, Operai said: “Users have told us that understanding how reasons the model through an answer not only supports the most informed decision making, but also helps to generate confidence in their answers.”
“While the raw cradle of the model remains hidden since it is difficult to understand, we have found a balance: the model may think freely and then organize those thoughts so that they are easy to read. To improve clarity and safety, we have added An additional postprocessing step where the model reviews the raw thought chain, eliminating any insecure content and then simplifies any complex idea.
The new approach effectively provides summaries of the model’s reasoning instead of showing the unprocessed data. However, despite the fact that the new approach is available both in the O3-MINI for free and paid users and O3-mini-High for paid users, the response in X to their changes was not entirely positive.
May Oshin responded in X, publishing: “We appreciate if he showed the complete chain of thought, not just the summary version … Thank you,” and Conor responded with: “It remains a summary and not a real crib that is disappointing.”
Some other users responded by suggesting that Operai was simply responding to the threat offered by the new Deepseek copying the way he presented the reasoning chain in his R1 model. “Finally, Depseek changing the world or,” Hamza replied. “So Openai copied the characteristic of Deepseek’s thinking chain?” Ignis Rex said, and “that moment when China is the innovative, and we are the imitator,” said Josip Volio Licardo.
A big step forward
Personally, I prefer the new way of presenting the reasoning in Chatgpt O3-mini. If you try the model now (only press the reasoning button) before entering your application, you will find that much more information about how Chatgpt is provided is coming to your conclusion. The previous scarcity of the reasoning information, compared to Deepseek, was something for which I criticized 03-mini in recent days. So, from my perspective, I think the new approach is a great step forward for Chatgpt O3-mini.
