Karachi: An anti-terrorist court (ATC) on Tuesday rejected the police application of the physical return of Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) to President AFAQ Ahmed in a case related to the vehicle fire and ordered that they send it to The jail.

Ahmed has been accused in two cases of violence registered in the Karachi Landhi and Awami Colony police stations.

According to the investigation of the police superintendent (SP) Korangi Qais Khan, the vehicles caught in Landhi on the politician’s instructions.

A first information report (FIR) was filed, and the plaintiff said that the suspects physically assaulted him before burning his truck.

The plaintiff also said that during the attack, the perpetrators said repeatedly that they were acting by order of their leader Ahmed, who had said that heavy traffic would not be allowed to enter the city.

He linked the incident with a viral video of the MQM-H chief, in which he and his associates allegedly issued threats, declaring that since Tuesday, heavy vehicles would not be allowed to enter Karachi, warning otherwise.

Ahmed was arrested Monday night from his residence in Clifton and was presented to the ATC in a armored vehicle under tight security, with handcuffed hands.

During today’s hearing, the judge interrogated the police prosecutor about the need for preventive detention, saying: “Tell me why the police need preventive detention. What do they need to investigate?”

The court commented that the case seemed suspicious and considered unnecessary, ordering the defendant to be sent to jail.

It is pertinent to know that Karachi has witnessed multiple fatal accidents that involve the Dumpers, which leads local authorities to impose a prohibition of daytime entry of heavy traffic. Transporters had organized protests against restriction.

Meanwhile, Ahmed’s legal team filed a bail statement, and the court has issued notices to both parties for a hearing on February 14.
