The parliamentary secretary provided clarifications about the Internet speed in the country during the National Assembly session.

The session, chaired by vice president Ghulam Mustafa, discussed the issue of slow internet speed during the time of the question.

Sabin Ghori, parliamentary secretary, reported that the Internet speed would improve in the middle of this year, and 5G would also be launched in mid -2025.

She explained that there are several reasons for the slow Internet speed.

The Pakistan Popular Party member (PPP), Agha Rafiullah, mentioned that the videos are not downloaded, and the Internet is extremely slow. Another member, Shagufta Jumani, commented that Bilawal Bhutto had correctly said that there are some fish that only eat the Pakistan cable.

In response, Parliamentary Secretary Sabin Ghori said humorously: “There are some fish that cut the internet cable, but we don’t know what fish is.”

Previously, the Permanent National Committee of the Assembly Information Technology urged the rapid termination of its agreement with Starlink, and the parliamentary secretary confirms that the service will be available in the country in June 2025.

The Committee, chaired by Aminul Haq, discussed several key issues, including the PSDF of the Ministry of Information Technology (IT) for fiscal year 2024-25 and other important projects.

HAQ instructed officials to accelerate the Starlink license process, the Satellite Internet service provider owned by Elon Musk, who has been in conversations with Pakistan for almost two years.

The Starlink license process had previously stagnated due to the absence of a regulatory authority, as noted by lawyer Gohar, a member of the committee. Pakistani authorities aim to complete the necessary paperwork soon, with the potential that Starlink works in operation in mid -2025.

Make Acenth, Sharmila Farooqi, legislator of PPP, expressed his frustration during a meeting of the Information Technology Committee of the National Assembly, accusing the government not to address the persistent interruptions on the Internet.

The meeting, chaired by Federal Minister of Ti Syed Aminul Haque, focused on slow Internet issues. Farooqi criticized the Minister of State for Sheza Fatima Khawaja for his responses, questioning government claims to improve Internet services.

“Every time PTI announces a protest, the Internet suddenly falls. Does the government call electronic commerce, public and liars of the United States? Farooqi asked, pointing out the financial losses incurred by her husband’s electronic commerce business due to the problem.
