The former Carolina Panthers star, Steve Smith Mr., defended himself on Tuesday of his former teammates after Cam Newton described the players as “losers” before the field marshal arrived there.
The Panthers selected Smith in the third round of the 2001 Draft. Ten years later, the Panthers found their franchise field marshal in Newton with the general selection number 1. Carolina had been in the playoffs three times, including making an appearance In the Super Bowl, before Newton was selected.

Carolina had 2-14 in 2010, what the team achieved general selection number 1. Newton entered and finally helped improve the team to the winners of the division. They did the Super Bowl 50, only to lose before the Broncos de Denver. Smith left the team after the 2013 season.
Newton’s “losers” comment occurred during an “extra time” podcast interview when asked what kind of pressures that the winner of the Heisman Travis Hunter trophy can face when entering the league.
“You could potentially be the first choice, but, brother, you have no way to affect the game as does a quarterback,” said Newton. “You can block the receiver No. 1. You can make impact plays in the offensive everything you want, but it is not yet like a quarterback. My problem is that, when I was the first choice, I entered a losers’ costume. Simply honest .
“The boys did not know how to win; the boys did not know how to prepare. They did not take seriously to realize that we were 2-14. There were many 2-14 in the mentality of those guys.”

The comment did not sit well with Smith.
“53 Man Locker Lights – 1 = 52 Losers. Wow … Last minute news at 89,” he wrote in an initial publication in X.
“I have seen and heard from the distance like u @cameonwton talk about @panthers! None of us is perfect. Yes, we were 2-14 before you blessed us with your presence. The way you talked about @panthers lately I ” I am very disappointed.
A fan pointed out that Smith had been critical of the Panthers in the past.
“I’ve never retired from my words,” he said in response. “However, calling men in the loser costumes is not slander, it’s disrespectful! I didn’t like many things that happened with my time there. But calling the losers not.”
Refilling in the past is far from what the Panthers organization needs to hear from its most famous students.
Carolina has not had a winning season since 2017. It was also the last time they arrived at the playoffs. Since then, the team has had five chief coaches with three internal chief coaches.

The Panthers were 5-12 in 2024, an improvement of their season 2-15 in 2023.
