President Asif Ali Zardari administered on Friday the oath to Sarfraz to tell the top court of the president of Islamabad (IHC) in a ceremony held here at the AIWAN-E-SADR.
The event began with the interpretation of the national anthem followed by the recitation of the Sacred Koran.
According to the official notification, the president of Pakistan appointed Judge Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar as the Superior Court of the President of Islamabad in the Superior Court of Islamabad from the day he lends an oath of his position until the appointment of the President of the Regular Justice.
A notification issued by the Ministry of Law on Wednesday night announced that President Asif Ali Zardari had appointed Judge Sarfraz to tell the president of the interim IHC.
The appointment, made under article 196 of the Constitution, entered into force since the date Dugar Dugar lent the oath and had to remain in place until a permanent justice president was appointed.
This appointment followed the elevation of Judge Aamer Faooq to the Supreme Court (SC) earlier that week.
Judge Dogar, who had previously been transferred from the Superior Court of Lahore (LHC), served until a permanent president was appointed.
The president also approved the elevation of seven judges to the Supreme Court, including Judge Aamer Faooq, Judge Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, Judge Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, Judge Salahuddin Panhwar, Judge Ishtiaq Ibrahim, Judge Shakeel Ahmad and the judge Miangul Hassan Aurengzeb.
The decision was opposed by Judges Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Babar Sattar, Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan and Saman Rafat.
IHC judges had decided to challenge the rejection of their representation.
