Islamabad:
A delegation of the Governance and Corruption Diagnosis Evaluation Team of the IMF met with representatives of the SCBA on Friday to discuss deficiencies in the judicial system and efforts to stop corruption in government institutions.
The president of SCBAP, Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta, directed the delegation of the association in discussions. The IMF team is located in Pakistan as part of the continuous review of the judicial framework under the installation of extended funds (EFF) of $ 7 billion. The meeting lasted more than an hour and took place in a cordial and constructive atmosphere.
The member of the Council of the Bar Association of Pakistan (PBC), Hasan Raza Pasha, together with the additional secretary of Scba, Muhammad Aurengzeb Khan, and the president of the Bar Association of the Superior Court of Baluchistan, Mir Ataullah Lango, were also present during discussions.
According to a statement issued by the SCBA, the main approach of the meeting was to stop corruption to create a friendly environment with investment in Pakistan. The president of SCBA highlighted failures in the judicial system, including the case portfolio in the lowest and district courts and the shortage of judges.
The discussion also covered the inactive government departments and the potential of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms (ADR) to reduce the burden of courts and improve public access to justice.
The meeting argued more thoroughly the strategies to combat corruption, improve governance and implement legal reforms. The president of SCBA emphasized the need for strict measures against financial crimes to strengthen Pakistan’s economy.
When addressing concerns about judicial responsibility, Mian Rouf Ata stressed that the legal system already has a mechanism for reward and punishment. He prepared that the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) addresses complaints against higher judicial judges, while the relevant superior courts supervises the district judges.
