Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz approved a new wastewater and drainage system for the main cities of the province, said Express News.

This initiative marks the first time that a comprehensive wastewater and water drainage for all large cities of Punjab is being implemented.

The main minister has ordered the authorities to create detailed plans for 189 cities with populations exceeding 100,000. The new system will include wastewater updates, water drainage, rainwater management, road repairs and other essential development projects.

As part of the plan, the Government has decided to establish wastewater derivations and elimination stations in cities for the first time.

In addition, storage tanks will be built for the immediate drainage of rainwater, with stored water reused for irrigation and other uses.

The plan also includes the strategic installation of wastewater and water supply pipes at appropriate distances to avoid pollution. Clean water pipes will remain separate from wastewater lines to maintain water quality.

In addition, 30 kilometers of roads in each provincial constituency will undergo construction and repair. During a special meeting, the main minister also approved the proposal to create model villages in Punjab, with immediate steps for the implementation of the Punjab development program.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the Clean Punjab program will benefit the 150 million residents of the province, addressing long -standing problems caused by inappropriate wastewater systems.

She assured that the new system will help protect the roads from wear and guarantee better public services throughout the province.
