PTCL achieves milestone since the Africa-1 cable system now lives in Pakistan


Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has successfully connected Pakistan with the Africa-1 submarine cable system, marking a significant advance in the nation’s digital infrastructure.

This high capacity cable system, capable of transmitting large amounts of data, has been linked to the exchange of PTCL in Karachi, ensuring faster and more reliable international connectivity.

The Africa-1 cable system covers 10,000 kilometers and integrates the latest digital technologies. It will connect to Pakistan with strategically important places, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, France, Kenya and Djibouti.

Syed Muhammad Shoaib, vice president of the PTCL group for international businesses, emphasized that this initiative is aligned with the ‘Digital Vision 2030’ of Pakistan.

He said: “We are committed to joining digital division, promoting innovation in several sectors and strengthening the country’s economy. The Africa-1 cable system will play a fundamental role in the improvement of internet speed, reliability and global connectivity “

The Africa-1 cable system is expected to be operational in early 2026, providing world-class internet services to companies and consumers in Pakistan.
