The owner of the Cleveland Cleveland Guardians, Larry Dolan, died at age 94, the team announced Monday.
The Dolan family is the oldest owner in the history of the franchise, and its patriarch is a lifelong Clevelander that influenced its community both inside and outside the countryside over the years.
“We are saddened by the loss of our father, but fortunate to have him as part of our lives while we did,” said the son, president and CEO of Dolan, Paul Dolan, in a statement. “He was a loving husband, father and grandfather passionate about his family, work, our community and his love for our local sports teams, including possessing Cleveland’s guardians.”

The Guardians added a video to their announcement of Dollan’s death, saying “Cleveland sadly lost one of his today.”
“Born in Cleveland Heights in 1931, Lawrence J. Dolan invested his entire life in Greater Cleveland and hit our community on many levels,” says the narrator on a montage of Dolan Pictures. “From his service to our country as the first lieutenant in the Marines of the United States, his many philanthropic acts in kindness, his career in law, business, education and sports, many benefited from their commitment, influence and passion, especially in the sports world. “
Dolan was a multisport star at Saint Ignatius high school, playing the corridor and defensive in the football team and starring a receiver in the baseball diamond.

“He was blessed to realize two dreams [of] Almost all Cleveland athletes of his generation: play in the field at Cleveland Stadium, where his children’s idol, Lou Boucreau, starred and owns one of the professional sports teams in our city, “continues the narrator.
“In February 2000, he bought his beloved baseball team of the hometown. We are always grateful for his passion and support the community of the Northeast of Ohio and the Cleveland Guardians organization.”

The MLB commissioner, Rob Manfred, also issued a statement about Dolan, expressing their condolences to the family and organization.
“The death of Cleveland’s native, Larry Dolan, whose property of the family of the century has made his team in his hometown a constant winner and a basic element of his community,” Manfred wrote in a statement. “Larry was a lifelong baseball fan who served our country as the first lieutenant in the United States Marines. He firmly believed in advising young people and using guardians as a way of affecting Greater Cleveland.”
Dolan bought his team from his hometown for “323 million Richard Jacobs, and saw Cleveland after 14 winning seasons and nine trips to the postseason since then.”
In 2016, they arrived in the World Series as winners of flags of the American League, but fell to the Chicago puppies at home in an exciting game.
Paul Dolan finally assumed the position of main owner of the franchise in 2013, and finally supervised the change of name of the team to Guardians in 2021.
