The member of the NBA Hall of Fame, Charles Barkley, was in the call for the male basketball game of his Alma Mater Auburn on Wednesday against Ole Miss, and did not put words about the state of university education.
Specifically addressed the cost.
Almost not caused, Barkley began to share his opinion on the name, image and likeness (NIL) in university sports, saying that he does not believe it is sustainable.

“I think we have to talk about university basketball,” he said. “I don’t think the zero model is sustainable. Listen, I want all these children to get what they can get. But asking universities to obtain $ 20, $ 30 million a year, especially some of the smallest schools, I don’t think it’s a sustainable model.”
Nil has been a controversial issue, and system critics say that it creates inequality because the largest schools can excessively spend the smallest during the recruitment of the main perspectives, which Barkley alluded.
And although Barkley wants students to be paid athletes, he believes that the price of enrollment in schools throughout the country is too expensive.

“I love these children. I want them to do well. But you have to understand, I try to tell people, most of these children have to get a free education, which is, with much, the most important thing,” said Barkley. “Because one of the great parodies of this country is what we are charging children to go to university. We need to find a way to ensure that smaller schools can compete.”

The education data initiative found that the inflation of university enrollment has averaged 3.63% per year from 2010-11 to 2022-23. And the cost of registration in an audience, a four -year -old school or university has increased 36.7% from 2010 to 2023.

In the past, university athletics gave an opportunity for a free education, mainly in the schools and universities of division I with scholarships. But athletes who earn money through NIL have been a conversation of decades, especially considering that profit institutions obtain certain programs that have a national attraction.
