NFL News: Rams, Matthew Stafford agree to restructure the contract

Matthew Stafford does not go anywhere.

The star marshal and the Los Angeles Rams agreed to a restructured agreement on Friday that will keep Stafford in California, the team announced.

The Raiders of Las Vegas and the New York giants were in commercial conversations with the Stafford camp, but the field marshal ended up taking less to keep the Rams, according to NFL Network.

Stafford and the Rams were at a game of eliminating the eventual Super Bowl champion, Philadelphia Eagles, in the NFC division round before falling short.

In that loss, Stafford completed almost 60% of his passes while launching for 324 yards and two touchdowns despite the less than ideal climatic conditions.

The Rams won the NFC West last season, going 10-7 and defeating the Vikings of Minnesota in the Commodines Round before losing to the Eagles.

Stafford, 37, was good last season. The Rams were 10-6 in the beginning (Stafford rested in week 18), and Stafford completed almost 66% of their passes for 3,762 yards, while launching 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

While Stafford will return with the Rams, Cooper Kupp probably won’t be. The team is looking to change it.

Despite the potential loss of KUPP, Stafford still has Puka Nacua, a fifth round of 2023 that has become a star, to launch.

Stafford won a Super Bowl with the Rams in its first season with the team after being changed from the Detroit Lions before the 2021 season and will hope to bring another to Los Angeles with their return.

Raiders and giants now appear to search for free agency or NFL draft to solve their field marshal problems.
