The Punjab government has announced the launch of special bus services for rural women, a crucial step to improve the accessibility of transport in the province.
The decision aims to address the ongoing challenges faced by women who live in rural areas, where the lack of reliable public transport has long been a barrier to their mobility, Express News reported.
According to the new plan, a dedicated bus service will work from each Rural Tehsil to the district headquarters.
Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has also requested the development of a transport plan between neighbors to further improve connectivity.
In addition, the government is reviewing a proposal to introduce a mass transport system consisting of 25 buses for remote districts, which will be implemented in phases.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of a comprehensive transport system for rural women, highlighting that the absence of accessible public transport has been a source of significant difficulties.
She said: “It is deeply worrying to see rural women who support such difficult travel conditions. A modern transport system is their right and will help increase their trust.”
The main minister has ordered immediate measures to provide subsidies to passengers within the mass transport system, with plans to develop the first Punjab Women’s Transport Solutions Plan.
This initiative aims to facilitate the displacement of rural women, especially students and those looking for medical attention.
Maryam Nawaz said that the new transport system would bring relief to women, allowing easier access to education and medical care.
Previously, the Punjab government announced a plan to introduce electric buses without a tram -type road as part of a new sustainable public transport initiative.
Maryam Nawaz ordered the Provincial Transportation Department to begin preliminary judgments for the system.
During a meeting held on Thursday, the main minister approved a five -year transport program aimed at modernizing the public transport infrastructure of the province. The authorities informed him about the Automated Fast Traffic System (ART), which has been successfully implemented in countries such as Abu Dhabi, Malaysia and Qatar.
The meeting participants were informed that art is among the most sustainable public transport systems worldwide.
Electric buses without a way used in this system are considered more efficient than conventional public transport, including articulated buses that currently operate in subway services in Lahore, Rawalpindi and fine. These vehicles can operate on standard roads within dedicated lanes, eliminating the need for specialized railways or rail systems.
In addition, the art system requires less space compared to traditional buses.
