National Highway blocked for seven hours while Steel Mills employees on the protest stage

Steel Mills employees organized a protest on the National Highway for more than seven hours on Saturday, paralyzing traffic and leaving travelers stranded for hours, according to Express News.

The demonstration began around 5 PM, with the workers who joined against the dismissals and the suspension of the supply of electricity and gas to their residential rooms.

Both track tracks were blocked, causing severe traffic congestion in the surrounding areas. The Traffic Police deviated vehicles from Port Qasim Chowrangi and the FB area cut to alternative routes.

However, the long lines of vehicles remained on nearby roads, creating difficulties for travelers.

According to a transit police spokesman, the protest ended around 12:30 am after negotiations between workers and authorities.

The traffic flow on the road was restored later.

Employees have been demanding the restitution of their work and the restoration of public services services, which were disconnected after layoffs.

Last year, in November, Sindh’s prime minister Murad Ali Shah sought the help of the Russian embassy in reviving Pakistan steel factories, proposing the installation of a new plant to strengthen the economy and increase employment.

The application was made during a meeting with Russian ambassador Albert P. Khorev, who was accompanied by Russian consul Andrey Fedorov and other officials.

Prime Minister Shah emphasized the importance of Pakistan’s relationship with Russia, highlighting that a functional steel factory could stabilize the economy and solve employment problems for factories workers.
