Senator Faisal Vawda, president of the Senate Permanent Committee on Maritime Affairs, claimed that a land scam is ended worth 50 to 60 billion during the current government’s possession, with an agreement signed on July 9, 2024, more than 500 acres of land.
The Permanent Committee of the Senate on Maritime Affairs was convened for a meeting, chaired by Senator Vawda, with key officials, including the president of Port Qasim and the interim president of Karachi Port Trust also in assistance.
During the meeting, Senator Dansh raised concerns about the absence of permanent presidents for Gwadar and Karachi ports, questioning why interim officials were executing the operations. In response, Vawda highlighted the severity of the matter, stating: “We have three options: give up, admit corruption or fight.”
In addition, he argued that if the question of 50 billion RS had not been addressed immediately, the agreement would not have been canceled within 72 hours. “If everything was appropriate, why was it canceled in just 72 hours? Together, we save the 60 billion RS of Pakistan,” Vawda added.
Vawda also accused Port Qasim of issuing deceptive refutations through the media to obscure the facts and deceive the public. He stressed that the land agreement, which involves 500 acres, was signed under the current government, with payments planned only by 365 acres. He said that only one advance of a single two percent was paid for the land valued at 60 billion rupees.
The Secretary of Maritime Affairs suggested that the problem could have been a mistake, but Senator Dineh responded quickly, stating that a motion of privileges against the secretary must be raised for deceiving the committee.
Vawda strongly criticized the secretary’s defense, calling the robbery of 50 to 60 billion rupees “is not a mistake” but a serious problem. The additional secretary admitted not having been aware of the matter, but revealed that they were part of the Board that supervised the agreement. Vawda added: “I will remember the additional secretary of many things.”
