Karachi:
When the Police directed their attention elsewhere during the month of Ramazan, the members of the notorious Lyari gangs took advantage of the situation to move from their strengths in the rooms of the old city to lodge in other neighborhoods of the Metropolitan City.
This is perhaps the reason why a strong increase in extortion that involves Lyari gangsters has been witnessed. It was reported on Tuesday that a Lyari gang was extorting money from the merchants in New Karachi.
The owner of a confectionery store in the 11-D sector recorded a case on behalf of the local market merchants at the new Karachi police station in different sections, including extortion and death threats.
According to him, two armed suspects reached a motorcycle on the market around 9 pmdel Tuesday night and demanded RS100,000 in extortion of each merchant. When they said they could not pay them such strong amounts, the suspects opened fire.
A three -year -old boy named Taimoor Ali was injured by the shots while the suspects fled the scene.
Police arrived shortly after the incident and recovered a 9 mm gun bullet housing from the place.
However, the test did not end there. Around 10 pm, the merchants, including the plaintiff, received another round of extortion messages, this time demanding RS1 million and threatening to kill them if they could not pay. Police have confirmed that suspects are linked to Lyari gangs.
They transferred the case to the Special Research Unit (SIU), which launched a search for suspects.
