‘It is not appropriate for SC to interfere with HC matters’

Islamabad:

The president of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (CJ) Yahya Afridi has declared that the higher courts are autonomous institutions and that it is not appropriate for the Superior Court to interfere in its affairs.

Judge Afridi made this comment on Thursday during a meeting with a delegation of the lawyer associations of the Fullan and Jhang district in Islamabad.

According to the Official Declaration issued after the meeting, the president of the Supreme Court welcomed the delegation, which highlighted issues related to the lack of communication and coordination between the Superior Court of Lahore (LHC) and the Bar Associations in Punjab.

Judge Afridi clarified that the higher courts are independent institutions and that it would not be appropriate to interfere with their affairs. However, he suggested that the matter could be discussed with the president of the Supreme Court of the LHC, the justice Aalia Neelum.

The CJ discussed the representation of the law councils in the Law of Law and Justice of Pakistan. He also informed the delegation on the next meeting of the Commission.

He also informed the delegation on training programs that are carried out under the Federal Judicial Academy, indicating that the details of these programs are available on the Academy website.

The CJ also provided information on the Fund for the Development of Access to Justice and encouraged the members of the bar to seek assistance under this initiative.

During the meeting, the delegation extended an invitation to the President of the Supreme Court to visit the district bars.
