RS17 cut per unit for net measurement users

Islamabad:

During the ongoing conversations with a mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Government has shared a plan regarding the purchase of energy of net measurement users.

According to the plan, it is proposed that the electricity of net measurement users will be bought at unit per unit. Previously, the electricity generated by net measurement consumers was bought from RS27 per unit. This means RS17 per rate of reduction in the rate.

The IMF had questioned how the issue of consumers would be addressed outside the network that abandon the main grid. The government has not yet provided a clear response or a plan on this matter.

Discussions with the IMF also included negotiations regarding electricity companies. The IMF has suggested to use the financial space to reduce circular debt, the sources report.

Net measurement is a billing mechanism that allows consumers to generate their own electricity, usually through solar panels, sell excess energy to the network. This reduces its electricity bills and provides an incentive for the use of renewable energy.
