The United States Central Command (US Centcom) has expressed its gratitude to Pakistan for its role in capturing the main suspect behind the mortal suicide bombardment at Kabul airport in Afghanistan. In a publication about its official Urdu language in X, US Centcom recognized the cooperation of Pakistan to arrest Mohammad Sharifullah, also known as Jafar, an alleged DAESH-Khorasan operation (ISIS-K). “We thank Pakistan for his cooperation in the arrest of Sharifullah, the main suspect in the attack on the airport of the Abbey Gate of the Kabul airport in Afghanistan, and for his cooperation with the United States to take the suspect to justice,” said the statement. The bombing of August 2021 at Kabul airport, which occurred in the middle of the chaotic withdrawal led by the United States of Afghanistan, killed at least 170 Afghan civilians and 13 members of the US service. Sharifullah was arrested in Pakistan after the intelligence provided by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), according to a report by the news agency. He has confessed to explore the attack route, authorities said. The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced the arrest during his speech to a joint session of Congress, calling Sharifullah a “monster” and thanking Pakistan for his help. “This is a very big day for affected families,” Trump said. Sharifullah has been extradited to the United States and produced before a court in Virginia. According to the United States Department of Justice, he admitted participation in multiple attacks, including the March 2024 attack against the Crocus City Council of Moscow. Supposedly provided video instructions on the use of AK -style rifles and other weapons to possible attackers. US Centcom highlighted the collaboration between Islamabad and Washington, saying that both nations share a “common interest in the war on terrorism.”
