Eagles, President Trump will meet at the White House on April 28

A date for the visit of the White House of the Philadelphia Eagles with President Donald Trump has been officially established to celebrate the victory of the Super Bowl last month.

The White House Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, announced Tuesday that the team will visit April 28.

Leavitt also hit the reports on whether an invitation would be sent after what happened in 2018.

As the 45th President of the United States at that time, Trump rescinded his invitation to the Eagles after his Super Bowl victory over the Patriots after some players said they would not attend.

This time, Trump acknowledged that he wanted to take the Eagles to the capital of the nation to celebrate, and that is exactly what will happen.

“I know there were many false news about an invitation that was not sent or sent. We want to correct the record: we sent an invitation. They accepted with enthusiasm and will see them here on April 28,” Leavitt said during his newspaper information from the White House on Tuesday.

Trump was present at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9 to see the Eagles dominate the Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22. He also pointed out last month that he wanted the Eagles to visit the White House.

“We haven’t done it yet, but we will be,” Trump said about sending an invitation. “I thought it was a great performance for them. Absolutely, an invitation will extend. We will do it immediately. We will do it today. Today they deserve to be here, and we hope to see them.”

The Eagles captain, Lane Johnson, said that a visit from the White House would be a “team decision” after they won the Super Bowl.

Johnson, who has spent the 12 seasons of the NFL with the franchise, was on the team when he won the first Vince Lombardi trophy of the organization in 2018, defeating New England’s patriots.

However, there was a controversy in that year when Trump rescinded his invitation to the Eagles after some players said they would not visit the White House due to the criticism of the 45th President to those who knelt or lifted their fists during the national anthem to protest against racial injustice and police brutality.

Trump issued a statement at that time about canceling his invitation, saying that “the 1,000 fans who plan to attend the event deserve something better.”

“They do not agree with their president because they insist that they proudly defend the national anthem, the hand in the heart, in honor of the great men and women of our army and the people of our country,” said Trump’s statement seven years ago.
