Pakistan has strongly condemned India’s decision to label two prominent organizations in Kashmira occupied by India as “illegal associations” for five years.
The AAC, headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a key figure in the back of Kashmir resistance, and the Jkim, led by the late Mauulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari until his death in 2022, were declared illegal by Indian law.
The decision carries the total number of political parties and organizations prohibited in the region to 16.
“Pakistan denounces the decision of the Indian authorities to declare AAM and JKIM as” illegal association “for a period of five years,” said the statement.
“The AAM is directed by a prominent political and religious leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The Jkim was also founded by another remarkable political and religious leader, Maulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari, who directed it until his disappearance in 2022, ”the statement continued.
The statement stressed that the decision is an attempt to suppress political activities and to quell dissent in the region, ignoring democratic principles and international human rights standards.
Earlier this month, Pakistan rejected the statements made by Indian Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, with respect to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Jaishankar had asked for the return of what he described as the “stolen back of coffee”, referring to Ajk as being under “illegal pachystone occupation.”
