Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the authorities to take strict measures against sugar hoarders and those responsible for artificially inflating prices, according to Associated Press of Pakistan (app).
Speaking at a review meeting on Friday, the prime minister expressed concern about the increase in sugar prices and emphasized the government’s commitment to guarantee fair prices.
Prime Minister Shehbaz declared that the government would not tolerate speculation or hoarding that artificially increase the cost of sugar. He ordered an integral offensive against deposits and hoarders, with a report on the action that will be presented after the operation.
The prime minister also instructed officials to closely control the supply and demand of sugar, highlighting that there is an adequate amount of the merchandise available in the country. In addition, he addressed authorities to strengthen their communication with sugar factories to guarantee adequate supervision.
When addressing the issue during the Sacred Month of Ramadan, Prime Minister Shehbaz said the government would not allow any public exploitation. He urged the main secretaries of the four provinces to ensure that sugar is provided to people at fixed prices and approved by the Government.
