The senior transport minister Sharjeel Inam Memon visited the ongoing construction work of the BRT project of the Yellow Line and inspected his progress.
During the visit, the Secretary of the Department of Transportation, Asad Zaman, director of the Yellow Line project Zameer Abbasi, engineers, representatives of construction companies and consultants were also present.
The consultants informed the main minister about the project, highlighting the progress, obstacles and the expected completion schedule.
Sharjeel Inam Memon instructed that there should be no delays in the completion of the Yellow BRT line, and must be completed before the deadline. In addition, he emphasized that the project, which will initially be completed in September 2025, will now be completed in May 2025, five months earlier than expected.
In statements to the media, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the government of Sindh is working tirelessly to provide the maximum convenience to people, and the Yellow BRT line is an advanced project that is being built for the citizens of Karachi. He acknowledged that the challenges related to public services are common during construction, but assured that the government is committed to overcoming these obstacles.
With respect to the Red Line BRT project, it mentioned challenges due to civil aviation, the water board and the K4 project, but assured that these problems would be solved soon. He praised the officials of the Department of Transportation for their excellent performance and efforts to complete the projects on time.
In the Green BRT line, he confirmed that the rates would not increase and additional facilities would be provided to improve the public’s travel experience.
Sharjeel Inam Memon also called for prime minister to honor his commitment to provide 180 buses for Karachi, since this is the right of city citizens. He urged the prime minister to fulfill this promise to guarantee better travel facilities for Karachi residents.
As part of special initiatives for women, he announced that pink scooters would be provided for free for working women. In addition, a pink taxi service would soon be introduced to offer safe and comfortable travel options for women. In addition, the Sindh government has launched the application and portal “i work for Sindh”, which will provide employment opportunities for unemployed young people.
Sharjeel Inam Memon concluded that all these projects are for the people of Karachi, and will be completed in time to guarantee modern travel facilities for the city.
