- Gemini will replace the Google Assistant on the phones this year
- Currently, the two AI applications can be executed with each other
- Updates for other devices will be announced soon
He has been clear for some time that Gemini is the future of AI attendees in terms of Google, and is now official: Google Assistant will be disappearing from smartphones before the end of the year.
In a blog post (through 9to5google), Brian Marquardt of Google explains: “In the coming months, we are updating more users on mobile devices from Google Assistant to Gemini; and later this year, the classic Google assistant will no longer be accessible in most mobile or available devices for new downloads in mobile application stores.”
If you have a phone that does not meet the minimum requirements for Gemini, the functionality of the Google assistant “will not change at this time”, but as those requirements are at least 2 GB of RAM and Android 10 or more, most users will receive the update.
Thanks to its generative foundations of AI, Gemini is much better to chat and find information than the Google assistant, and slowly all the other tasks that Google Assistant can do on mobile devices have been incorporated. The interruption is now almost ready.
Smart speakers and other devices
For now, Google Assistant will continue to operate on devices such as smart speakers, intelligent screens and televisions, says Google, but it will only be a matter of time before all these hardware parts also obtain Gemini’s treatment.
As for the devices that connect directly to the phones, such as cars, tablets, headphones and smart watches, the involvement is that an update of Google Gemini is more imminent than for nests and nests minis. “We hope to share more details with you in the coming months,” writes Marquardt.
The blog publication touches the rapid expansion of Gemini and its capabilities: the AI bot is now available in more than 40 languages in more than 200 countries, and Google says it has been built to carry out the same mission as the Google assistant.
Without a doubt, more updates to Gemini are on their way in the coming months. “We have updated the application to admit more of the most requested features, such as playing music, configuring timers or taking measures from its lock screen,” writes Marquardt.
