The growing market for 5K and 8K monitors has seen more brands introduce high-resolution monitors for photo editing and video edition, with ViewSonic becoming the tenth supplier to enter this space presenting its VP2788-5K in the Pepcom digital experience in January 2025.
ViewSsic had announced that the VP2788-5K would be launched in the first quarter of 2025, but skepticism arose due to the destination of its previous 8K monitor, the VP3286-8K, which was announced but never reached the market, which increases concerns about possible delays.
However, the VP2788-5K has broken this trend, and is now officially available on Amazon.
Viewssic VP2788-5K: a 5K professional grade monitor
The VP2788-5K is a 27-inch monitor with a resolution of 5120 x 2880, which makes it one of the smallest 5K screens available, and specifically designed for MAC users and creative professionals, offering 100% SRGB and 99% DCI-P3 color coverage to guarantee precise and precise visualizations.
It has Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, which supports data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps, 100W power delivery and the margaritas chain for double monitor configurations, while HDMI, Displayport, USB-C and USB-A ports improve compatibility with a variety of devices.
With the validation of Pantone and the HDR400 certification, the VP2788-5K offers vibrant colors and deep contrast, while its matte screen minimizes the glow, and the ergonomic support allows users to adjust the height, inclination and swirl for greater comfort.
With $ 1,041.66 on Amazon, the VP2788-5K is positioned as a premium option, but with alternatives that offer similar characteristics at lower prices, it remains to be seen if it can still have an impact on the growing 5K monitor market.
Here are some other popular options that we saw on Amazon, which are sold for almost half the price of the Apple Studio screen.
ASUS PROART PA27JCV: A 5K option with budget
The ASUS PROART PA27JCV is another 27 -inch 5K monitor, with a price of $ 799 on Amazon. Like the viewsic VP2788-5K, it offers 99% DCI-P3 and a 100% SRGB color accuracy, which makes it ideal for the design and edition of works.
It is verified from Calman, which means that it has been calibrated by factory for high precision of the color. The USB-C port provides an energy delivery of 96W, which admits MacBooks and other USB-C devices.
The most prominent feature is Auto KVM, which allows a perfect switching among multiple devices using a single keyboard and mouse, while Luxpixel technology reduces the glow for better visibility in bright environments.
Samsung Viewfinity S9: an intelligent 5K alternative
Samsung’s Viewfinity S9 (LS27C900Panxza) is another contender in the 5K monitor market, with a price of $ 848 on Amazon. Unlike the other two monitors, it includes intelligent characteristics, which makes it a hybrid between a monitor and a television.
It has a 99% DCI-P3 color coverage and a matt screen to reduce reflexes. Thunderbolt 4 connectivity supports a load of up to 90 W, so it is a convenient option for Mac users.
It includes a detachable business webcam, a remote control and a two -year guarantee, which distinguishes it from traditional monitors. However, it lacks Pantone validation and Calman’s certification, which can be important for professional designers.
The growing availability of affordable 5K monitors suggests that they are now a practical option for professionals who need more details than 4K but do not require an 8K monitor, which remain rare and expensive.
