- According to reports, the United States Department of Commerce has been forbidden to use Deepseek on government devices
- This follows similar prohibitions of other government agencies and departments of the United States.
- A bipartisan bill has been introduced in Congress to prohibit the model of all the United States government devices.
The United States Department of Commerce has been forbidden to use the Chinese AI model on devices issued by the Government.
According to PakGazette, employees are prohibited from downloading, see, accessing applications, desktop applications or websites related to Depseek.
“To help keep the information systems of the Department of Commerce safe, access to the new AI DEPEEEK based in China is widely prohibited in all GFE,” a mass email told employees about their equipment loved by the Government.
Data privacy concerns
The chatbot has also been prohibited by the US Navy, which has asked the personnel to avoid using it in “any capacity” due to “potential security and ethical concerns associated with the origin and use of the model.”
The great language models such as Deepseek collect large amounts of personal information and scrape the website to collect large amounts of data in the training of the model, which has led to the states that prohibit the tool, such as the Italian data protection authority that blocks the model on privacy concerns, finding the information given to the ‘totally insufficient’ regulators.
In February 2025, a bipartisan bill was introduced in the United States Congress with the objective of “protecting the American Depseek” prohibiting AI in all government devices for federal employees.
“The Chinese Communist Party has made it clear that any tool will exploit at your disposal to undermine our national security, throw harmful misinformation and collect data on Americans,” said congressman Josh Gottheimer.
“Now, we have deeply disturbing evidence that Deepseek are using to steal the confidential data of US citizens. This is a national security fire of five alarms. We must reach the bottom of the evil activities of Deepseek. We simply cannot risk the PCCH that is infiltrated in the devices of our government officials and endanger our national security.”
