The best and most precise weather forecasts could soon be a more common occurrence for all thanks to a new NVIDIA update.
In its Nvidia GTC 2025 event, the company presented the next step in its plan to use a digital planet Earth twin to help forecasts to build more precise prognosis models.
The Nvidia Omniverse model for the Earth-2 weather analysis model provides a significant update on the original iteration, announced in GTC 2024, providing more precise and powerful tools to further improve forecasts.
Better forecasts, faster
Nvidia says that severe weather related events have caused an impact of $ 2 billion on the global economy in the last decade, and that better forecasts could be a way of mitigating this.
He says that the Nvidia Omniverse Plan for EARTH-2 offers a series of useful tools, including GPU NVIDIA acceleration libraries, a physics-AI framework, development tools and microservices to help accelerate the process of moving from creating prototypes to production with time forecast models.
Indeed, Nvidia says that all this should help developers to build solutions that deliver warnings and forecasts updated in seconds, instead of the necessary minutes or hours with the traditional modeling driven by the CPU.
“We are seeing more extreme meteorological events and natural disasters than ever, threatening lives and properties,” said the CEO of Nvidia, Jensen Huang.
“The Blueprint Nvidia Omiver for Earth-2 will help industries around the world to prepare and mitigate, climate change and climate-related disasters.”
The platform has already registered several important climate technology companies, including the artificial intelligence company G42, JBA Risk Management, Spire and others.
