No agenda, individual greater than national security: coas

Islamabad:

The head of the Army personnel, General Syed also Munir, emphasized on Tuesday the need for better governance to eliminate terrorism, warning that for how long the security forces would continue to fill “the governance gaps with the blood” of the martyrs.

When heading to the Parliamentary National Security Committee (NSC), the Army Chief urged “all elements of national power” to work in harmony to make Pakistan a strong and resistant state. He asked to ascend above political and personal interests to adopt a unified position against terrorism.

“We need a better governance and we must transform Pakistan into a” hard state. “How long will we continue sacrificing innumerable lives under a” soft state, “he asked. “How long will we continue filling the gaps of government with the blood of the armed forces and martyrs of Pakistan,” he said.

The general also emphasized that the ongoing war against terrorism was “a battle for our survival and that of future generations.” He stressed that there was no agenda, movement or individual greater than the country’s security.

“For sustainable stability, all elements of national power must function in harmony. I request religious academics to expose the distorted interpretation of Islam by the Kharijitas,” he said, referring to the term used for terrorists belonging to Tehreek-E-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The Army Chief declared that nothing was more important for Pakistan’s armed forces than the security of the nation. “If the country exists, then we exist,” he said. To safeguard Pakistan, he said: “We must unite and adopt a common narrative, reserve political and personal differences”

The Army Chief warned that those who believed that they could weaken Pakistan through terrorism should understand that “we are united, and we will not only defeat them” but also their facilitators. “We have a complete faith in Allah Almighty; whatever happens, Inshaallah, we will succeed.”
