In a significant development, the Superior Court of Islamabad (IHC) has constituted a larger bank to listen to several templates presented with respect to the right of PTI Imran Khan founder to meet the members of his family and party leaders in the Adiala jail of Rawalpindi, where the former prime minister is imprisoned.
The bank that will be led by the president of the Supreme Court of IHC, Muhammad Sarfraz, will include Judge Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Judge Muhammad Azam Khan. The largest bank will listen to more than 20 supplications.
The development occurred when IHC’s interim boss heard a petition presented by the Superintendent of the Adial prison, Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, who complained about multiple supplications regarding the visit rights of Imran Khan and the trials in conflict by the courts on said issue.
“In the interest of judicial consistency, it is imperative that all related cases list […] Consolidate before a unique or larger bank to guarantee uniform award and the effective application of judicial directives, “read the request of the prison official while citing the operational difficulties and the uncertainty faced by the prison administration. The former prime minister, who faces a large number of legal cases, has been arrested in Adiala Jail since September 2023.
However, his imprisonment has not been exempt from controversy, since the former ruling party has complained again about abuse by the authorities, as well as the alleged obstacles in the organization of meetings between the founder of PTI, his lawyers and others.
Last week, the IHC had ordered Adiala officials to present the former prime minister to his personal capacity in relation to a statement presented by Mashal Yousafzai of PTI against alleged denial of permission to comply with the founder of PTI.
