The United Kingdom Air Safety Committee will hold a crucial meeting on Thursday, March 20 to review the prohibition of five years of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other Pakistani carriers.
According to the sources, the Committee will evaluate the case of Pakistani airlines, which have been forbidden to operate in the United Kingdom and Europe since July 2020. Restrictions were imposed after the false pilot license scandal that raised serious concerns about aviation security standards in Pakistan.
The officials of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Pakistan expressed optimism regarding a positive result of the meeting. “With the recent resumption of flights to Europe, we hope that the United Kingdom also approves the restoration of Pakistani airlines,” said a CAA official.
The prohibition was enforced after European and British regulators suspended PIA operations, citing concerns about the license and pilot certification. The decision had significantly impacted the Pakistan aviation sector, limiting direct flight options to the United Kingdom and Europe.
If the committee governs in favor of lifting the ban, Pakistani airlines could soon resume operations to British airports, marking a significant advance for the country’s aviation industry.
