QUETTA:
The Balochjehti (Byc) committee accused the Police of using excessive force against protesters in the provincial capital, claiming that they opened fire against peaceful protesters, killed three people and hurting dozens, including seven in critical condition.
However, Baluchistan government spokesman Shahid Rind refuted the accusations, stating that the protesters resorted to stone and not provoked violence, hurting several police officers, including a policeman.
The government said the police acted according to the law to eliminate a national road blocked, while Byc insisted that security forces used unnecessary force to suppress a peaceful demonstration.
The authorities have sealed the red zone, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.
The Baluchistan-Mengal National Party (BNP-M) and the National Party (NP) condemned what they describe as excessive force against peaceful protesters and urged the government to participate in the dialogue to resolve the situation.
Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Chief of Byc, leads the protest and has promised to continue the sitting in Saryab Road, demanding justice for the victims.
On Thursday, the relatives of missing persons, who had been demanding that they would be allowed to identify corpses brought to the Civil Hospital, had managed to carry several corpses of the hospital morgue.
While it was not clear if they had positively identified the bodies as belonging to their disappeared loved ones, the hospital officials told Dawn that the protesters linked to the Balochjehti Balochjehti Committee (Byc) made their way in the morgue and took at least five bodies.
