The family can meet the BYC chief in jail

QUETTA:

The Superior Baluchistan Court (BHC) on Tuesday allowed the family of the activist arrested Dr. Mahrang Baloch to visit her in prison.

A bank of two members, composed of judges Rozi Khan Barraich and Shaukat Ali Rakhshani, heard a petition presented by his sister, Nadia Baloch, challenging her arrest. The court accepted the petition and issued notices to the relevant authorities, granting them a week to provide details of the case.

Dr. Baloch was arrested under Section 3 of the Public Order Maintenance Ordinance (MPO), which argued his lawyer, violated constitutional rights. The court determined that it was worth reviewing and approved an application that allowed his family and legal advisor to meet her in the District prison in Quetta.

Dr. Baloch, the chief organizer of the Baloch Jakjehti Committee (Byc), was arrested along with his various supporters after a clash with the police in Sariab Road, near Baluchistan University in Quetta, last Friday.

Police, in response to the stone fight for bystants of Byc, used tear gas, water cannons and white shots to disperse them. The Byc accused the police of using “excessive force against protesters and killing three people and hurting dozens.”

However, the provincial government spokesman Shahid Rind, refuted the accusations, stating that the protesters resorted to the stone fighting and not provoked violence, hurting several police officers, including an agent woman.

Subsequently, Dr. Baloch, who directed the protest, issued a call for a closing blow to the province. However, in the early hours of Saturday, Dr. Baloch was arrested, along with 17 other protesters: 10 men and seven women.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government arrested the leader of the Baloch Jakjehti (byc) Sammi Deen Baloch and four other days on the maintenance of public order (MPO) on Tuesday after the protest of the group in Karachi.
