The Popular Party of Pakistan (PPP) has planned to jog memories of its protests from Anti-Kalabagh dam, since it increases the commitment of the demonstrations against the construction of six new channels in the Indo River. The party president of the party, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, told a demonstration at the Dulha Darya bridge in the District of Thatta on Tuesday that in the next phase of his protest, the demonstrations of sitting will be carried out in all the Talukas of the province.
He informed that the president of the party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, will address public meetings from April 4 going to the headquarters of the division one after another. He added that the sitting on the National Highway is also being planned.
“The protest movement will continue until the federal government removes the plan to build Cholistan and other channels.” He recalled that the movement against the Kalabagh dam had also begun from the District of Thatta in the 1990s.
Referring to some leaders of the Great Democratic Alliance (GDA) of Pir paid Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi, Khuhro said that many political figures that today oppose the channels publicly supported the Kalabagh dam in the past. “Liaquat Jatoi [a Dadu district based politician] Even manifestations organized for former dictator Pervez Musharraf in support of the dam. “
He also recalled that Jatoi, when he was the prime minister, influenced the then president of the Sindh Assembly, Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, to postpone a planned session of the Assembly in which a resolution against the dam was scheduled. “Those who used to sit in Musharraf’s lap and supported the Kalabah dam today criticize the leadership of the PPP for secretly supporting the channels.”
