Mullvad VPN has just presented a considerable update to its protections against AI surveillance.
The second version of his defense against traffic guided by IA (diata) is now available for all VPN applications, which brings two main improvements that “make it more difficult for attackers addressed to Daita.”
Mullvad launched Daita one of the best VPN suppliers for privacy users as “the first step” in the battle against the sophisticated traffic analysis driven by the new generative AI software.
Daita 2.0
Built completely in an open source frame, DAITA modifies the appearance of data packages sent through the VPN network to prevent fisoteros from tracking the activity back to you.
It does so that all the data packages of the same size, adding random background traffic and distorting patterns.
According to Jan Jonsson, CEO of Mullvad VPN, this capacity is critical, since AI can be used to analyze traffic patterns. In simpler terms, this means that your activities may be linked to you without the need to break the encryption offered by the virtual private network (VPN).
“The AI will be used both to collect data on people and to analyze that data. That is why we develop Daita, to counteract this right at the point of data collection,” Jonson told me in October.
However, on March 28, 2025, Mullvad launched the second version of Daita on all its platforms to reduce attacks against the characteristic itself.

According to Mullvad’s own words, “Daita version 2 brings two main improvements: a great reduction in air traffic and dynamic configurations that vary the characteristics of the VPN tunnel between the connections.”
The first refine improvement one of the covert practices that Daita uses to confuse the follow -up of AI: the addition of fictitious packages to distort network patterns.
Daita 2.0 now inserts half of the amount of these packages, but promises to offer the same level of defense. “As a client that Dita uses, the immediate benefit is the improved speed,” says the supplier.
In the new version, two VPN customers who visit the same website will now produce different data flows in the tunnel, also to make it difficult for the attackers to avoid Daite’s protections. A new configuration is also selected every time a device recreates its VPN connection.

Mullvad’s commitment to protect your data against AI surveillance does not stop there either. The team is already working on a new version of Daita.
