Roadstock is preparing to release SDK for Bitcoin layer 2 using bitvmx

One of the oldest Bitcoin ecosystem projects is to move on to the next stage of allowing developers to build layer 2 networks using their computational layer.

Rootstock is one of the many projects that currently advances the objective of bringing greater utility and interoperability to Bitcoin, what he is doing using “bitvmx”, a modified version of the Bitvm programming language.

The Rootstock project is weeks after launching software development kits (SDK), which allows developers to start producing their own layers 2 of Bitcoin using Bitvmx, founder Sergio Lerner to Coindesk said.

SDKs are sets of tools that allow third parties to create applications using a particular platform or frame.

“We are very close to having all the pieces ready for people to begin to build their own solutions in addition to Bitvmx,” Lerner said in an interview.

The Rotstock BitvMX project takes advantage of the BitvM paradigm introduced by Robin Linus in 2023 as a design of how smart -style intelligent contracts could be built in Bitcoin. This could greatly improve Bitcoin’s scalability by allowing the construction of faster 2 layer networks with programability similar to what is possible in Ethereum and other blockchains.

Bitvmx platform

Together with Bitvmx taxpayers, Fairgate, RootstockLabs last year made a breakthrough when using bitvmx to verify a snark of zero knowledge (succinct argument of non -interactive knowledge), an integral aspect of cryptography in many blockchain systems.

According to Lerner, the availability of tools for other developers to explore these capabilities will boost competition and, therefore, will increase adoption, according to Lerner.

“There is a difference between a product and a platform: a product is closed, but a platform is something that can easily connect and develop its own ideas,” he said.

“Bitvmx is becoming a platform, which means that there will be much more competition: rolls and lateral technology that compete with each other and those who can find use cases so that people drive their tools.”

Lerner, a programmer based in Buenos Aires, is better known for his research on Bitcoin in his early years and his subsequent contribution to development in Ethereum.

He told Coindesk that he fears that Bitcoin does not meet the purpose for which he says he was created, becoming a “money for people”, if it is still only a value store.

“If everything BTC simply ends in ETF, everyone will be controlled by financial institutions and there will be no more bitcoin as we know it,” he said.

“So we must all make Bitcoin payments and keep our own BTC under self -commission. That is why we think that creating layers for Bitcoin is the right approach and I think the key to this is the bitvm protocols, especially Bitvmx.”

Bitvmx force

RootstockLabs and Fairgate have formed an alliance to expand the usefulness of Bitcoin using Bitvmx, which also involves the entry of the Blockchain infrastructure engineering company | Output (IO).

The “Bitvmx Force” will focus on standardization and protocol improvements to help soften future improvements in Bitcoin Softs and infrastructure improvements as they occur, according to an announcement sent by email shared with COINDESK on Tuesday.

“Roadstock and IO have their own initiatives: Rootstock is Building Union, which is a bridge between Bitcoin and Rootstock based on Bitvmx and IO is working on a project to move Bitcoin to Cardano and return assets,” said Fairgate CEO, Jonatan Altszul, in an interview.

“Fairgate is also pressing this technology and we think that together we will have more firepower, more strength, more capacity to create a larger community.”
