“We are happy that the authorities in Río Rancho took this matter seriously and presented criminal charges,” said the public schools of Albuquerque in a statement, through Koat-TV. “Scandalous behavior like this should find rapid consequences to send the message that it is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
“A large majority of athletes, coaches and parents in the schools of Albuquerque, Río Rancho and throughout New Mexico fulfill the good sports spirit, and we are sure that this unfortunate incident is an aberration.”

The Rio Rancho Police Department launched an investigation into the accusations after rumors rolled over the alleged March 25 incident within the Cueva Secondary School Community. Several players of the Cave High School may have drunk from the supposedly contaminated water jug.
The entire University baseball team of Rio Rancho Junior was suspended in the midst of the investigation.
“We want to make it clear that the supposed behavior is abhorrent and does not represent the expected standards and values of all the students who attend the public schools of Río Rancho,” said Wyndham Kemsley, director of Intermediate Communications of the Public Schools of Río Rancho, in a statement to the Rio Rancho observer.

The incident occurred between a Rio Rancho High School player and the High School cave team.
“If it is determined that it is true, the discipline for all involved will be severe.”
