- Google has stopped issuing Android 12 and 12L updates
- It means that software devices are open to safety problems.
- The recommended option is to update the oldest devices
Google has stopped providing updates for Android 12, three and a half years after its launch in October 2021, so it has older devices that continue to run the software, it is a good idea to start thinking about the update.
As seen by Android Authority and then confirmed by Google, Android 12 and the variant of the tablet, Android 12L, were out of the last round of Android security updates. The support for these software versions officially withdrew on March 31, 2025.
If you still have a phone or a table with Android 12 or Android 12L that cannot be updated to a newer software, suddenly it will not stop working, but now it will be more vulnerable to safety errors and piracy attacks.
There is a small possibility that the manufacturer of your device can issue more updates, but given the age of Android 12 and Android 12L now, it is unlikely. Therefore, this could be a good time to enjoy one of the best Android phones or the best Android tablets that run the last Android 15 software.
Looking back
Although now is the end of the road to Android 12, it was at one time the last and best Google software update. As with all the recent Android releases, it was first exhibited at the Google I/O event in the year of its launch, in this case 2021.
The operating system marked the beginning of a significant design change, with a visual review that Google called you material and that is still in place today. The design settings included a better use of color, menus and more rounded buttons, and softer animations.
There was also a series of security and privacy updates, which included a new privacy board for Android users, easier permissions management and improved control on how applications could use the device location information.
While we are in a nostalgic humor, Google launched the Google Pixel 6 and the Google Pixel 6 Pro at the same time as Android 12. The new phones marked the debut of the distinctive rear camera bar, as well as several internal updates.
