The Chinese authorities have accused the United States National Security Agency (NSA), and a couple of American universities, to perform cyber attacks on the country’s critical infrastructure.
A report from the Public Security Office of Harbin said that three NSA agents were involved, as well as the technology of the University of California and Virginia, in the attacks, which took place during the Asian winter winter games in February 2025
“The United States National Security Agency (NSA) launched cyber attacks against important industries such as energy, transport, water conservation, communications and national defense research institutions in the province of Heilongjiang,” says the report.
Social disorder
Harbin is located in the Northeast of China, in the province of Heilongjiang, which limits with Russia. It is located on the southern shore of the Songhua River, which makes it an important regional center near the Russian East and part of the coldest region of China.
The objective of the attacks was to sabotage China’s critical information infrastructure, it was explained more thoroughly, “causing social disorder and stealing important confidential information.”
There were no details about the agents, or how universities were involved in attacks.
Supposedly, they repeatedly carried out the cyber attacks against China’s critical information infrastructure and participated in cyber attacks against Huawei and other companies. “
The report establishes that the campaign included the activation of “specific pre -installed rear doors” in Microsoft Windows installed on some devices in Heilongjiang.
Cybersecurity researchers often warn about the actors of threats sponsored by the Chinese state who direct cybernetic fans, malware attacks and other forms of cyber crime against critical infrastructure in the West. However, China always denies any participation in these activities and, on the other hand, accuses the United States of being the world’s largest cybernetics.
In fact, he once said that Volt Typhoon, a group sponsored by the known Chinese state was, in fact, an asset of the CIA.
