In what we can only assume that it is a potential thumb in the eye of Elon Musk, Sam Altman’s open is considering building a social network, possibly within Chatgpt.
This is produced through a new report by The Verge, which states this week that the social network that is possibly being built on Openai’s services is only in the “early stages.” Even so, Chatgpt and other Operai platforms for a face -to -face battle with Grok, a generative AI platform built on the X of Elon Musk (previously Twitter) could configure.
Basically, there are no details about how this social platform could be seen, and OpenAi has little experience with shared content outside what their models can generate and what you can see in Sora (the videos generation system) of other people’s creations.
Take that, x
The fact that this rumor is available could have little to do with the development behind the scene and more with the current battle of Altman with former Musk partner.
The couple founded Openai together before Musk left in 2018. Since then, he has criticized and sued Openai for, among other things, becoming, at least part, in a profit for profit (see the Openai association with Microsoft and the rise of co -pilot).
However, suppose for a moment that this is real. Why did Operai want to build a social network? In a word: data.
If millions go to the platform and then begin, I suppose, sharing memes generated by AI, they will drop a ton of rich data in the OpenAI system. If users allow it, the future versions of the GPT model could be trained in it. The real data and activities that show how real people think, speak, act, create, etc., can be invaluable for a young generative model.
Social time is everything
I wonder if this could have made more sense one or two years ago when Musk took over Twitter, transformed it into X, eliminated many of the railings of protective content and made it a hell of social networks. It was at that time that the finish lines rushed for the first time. Bluesky followed him with notoriety. Both are distributed social networks, which means that no one possesses their identity or their data.
Its growth has been remarkable and contrasts with the fortune of X. Depending on who you are talking to, the active growth of the user is stagnant or reduced. But that does not mean that the public’s appetite for more alternative platforms is growing. The growth of the threads has slowed down, and Bluesky is relatively small compared to X and threads.
The action is mainly on social platforms based on images and videos such as Snapchat, Tiktok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. The Verge report does not mention the video, which leads us to assume that this could be another microcamlogging style network, something that nobody necessarily needs or, perhaps, wants.
Even so, as an opportunity to cause Elon Musk a little more agitated, it is probably an Altman -worthy trial balloon.
